D.L. Moody and Ira Sankey
DL Moody and Ira Sankey were the primary movers of Christian thought and action in the second half of the 1800s. Their first meeting was part of the 15th annual international conference of the YMCA, here in Indianapolis. Moody, know for his integrated educational opportunities for poor children and was now leading the convention. Sankey, a delegate from Pennsylvania was known for his abilities singing gospel music. He is one of the earliest influences in American Gospel music. Together their actions brought about schools for the poor, education for women and minorities, and even today they have influence throughout Western Christianity.
